Prevention Starts With Daily Care
Good exotic-pet care begins with the basics. During wellness visits, we can discuss diet, enclosure setup, temperature, lighting, activity, dental health, and other husbandry factors that may affect your pet’s well-being.
Some species also have unique dental needs. Utah Veterinary Hospital provides services including exotic incisor clipping and dental floating for herbivores and pocket pets when appropriate.
Diagnostic Care for Exotic Pets
When an exotic pet is sick, testing can help us better understand what’s happening. Utah Veterinary Hospital has access to a range of laboratory testing for exotic species, including reptile profiles, rabbit neurologic testing, rabbit E. cuniculi and Pasteurella panels, ferret profiles, and small-mammal blood profiles and complete blood counts.
Depending on your pet’s species and condition, we may also recommend other diagnostic services such as radiographs, ultrasound, or additional laboratory testing.
When Your Exotic Pet Seems Unwell
Changes in eating, drinking, stool production, breathing, movement, energy, skin, or behavior may be signs that your exotic pet needs medical attention. Because many exotic species can hide illness, it’s a good idea to contact us when something seems noticeably different.
