Pets can’t explain where they hurt or how they feel, and some health problems show only subtle signs. Diagnostic testing gives our veterinary team more information about what’s happening inside your pet’s body.
Depending on your pet’s symptoms, age, medical history, or examination findings, we may recommend bloodwork, urine testing, parasite screening, or imaging. We’ll explain why a test is being suggested and how the results may help shape the next step.

Laboratory Testing
Utah Veterinary Hospital offers access to an extensive range of laboratory testing for dogs, cats, and exotic pets. Testing may include complete blood counts and chemistry profiles, urinalysis, fecal and parasite screening, heartworm testing, feline leukemia and immunodeficiency virus testing, parvovirus testing, endocrine testing, cultures, cytology, and pre-anesthetic blood panels.
More specific testing is also available when needed for concerns involving organ function, infectious disease, hormone levels, gastrointestinal disease, dermatologic conditions, and other medical problems.
For our exotic patients, available testing includes species-specific options such as reptile profiles, rabbit neurologic and infectious-disease panels, ferret profiles, and small-mammal blood profiles.
X-Rays & Ultrasound
Radiographs can provide valuable information about bones, joints, the chest, abdomen, spine, head, and other areas of the body. Utah Veterinary Hospital also performs specialized radiographic studies when appropriate.
Ultrasound provides another way to evaluate structures inside the body without surgery. Available ultrasound services include abdominal, reproductive, and cardiac imaging.
These tools may be used individually or alongside laboratory testing to give us a more complete picture of your pet’s health.
Endoscopy & Video Imaging
Some conditions benefit from a closer look at areas that are difficult to evaluate during a standard examination. Utah Veterinary Hospital offers diagnostic scoping and video-imaging procedures including video otoscopy, rhinoscopy, pharyngo-laryngoscopy, and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Upper GI scoping may include esophagoscopy and gastroscopy to examine the esophagus and stomach when clinically appropriate.
